We’ll escape the city’s heat by taking a scenic 48-kilometer drive north of Siem Reap to explore the sacred Kulen Mountains, known locally as Phnom Kulen ("Mountain of the Lychees"). This mountain provided the sandstone used to construct the Angkor Kingdom. Our first stop will be the sacred River of a Thousand Lingas, where hundreds of intricately carved lingas are etched into the riverbed, dating back to the 9th century. As we move downstream, we’ll also find large stone blocks submerged in water, adorned with carvings of Apsaras dancers and Vishnu. Next, we’ll visit the mountaintop pagoda, which houses relics, statues, and a majestic reclining Buddha. Our final stop will be at Kulen Waterfall, where a natural pool awaits, perfect for a refreshing swim and a relaxing picnic. After enjoying this peaceful spot, we’ll head back to Siem Reap in the afternoon.
