A UNESCO-recognized geopark located in the northern province of Cao Bang has been included in a list of the 50 most breathtaking places on Earth. U.S. news site Insider, which compiled the selection, describes the Non Nuoc Cao Bang Global Geopark, designated as such by UNESCO just last year, as offering "magnificent views of its waterfalls, lakes, and diverse plant species."

Spanning 3,000 square kilometers along the China border, the Non Nuoc Cao Bang Geopark was established in 2015. Its remarkable geology, including a wealth of fossil, sediment, volcanic, and karst formations, is believed to chronicle 500 million years of the planet's history.
Situated roughly seven hours northeast of Vietnam's capital Hanoi, the geopark has long been a popular tourist destination, home to over 200 cultural and historical sites. It also provides access to some of Cao Bang's most famous natural wonders, such as the majestic Ban Gioc Waterfall, the largest waterfall in Vietnam and the fourth largest transnational waterfall in the world, after Iguazu Falls, Victoria Falls, and Niagara Falls. Last April, Microsoft network MSN included Ban Gioc in its list of 15 most charming cascades in the world.

Other appealing stops at the geopark include Nguom Ngao Cave, Thang Hen Lake, and the Phia Oac-Phia Den eco-tourism area. The U.S news site's list of the world's 50 most breathtaking sights also includes the Great Wall of China, Nubian Monuments in Egypt, France's Eiffel Tower, Neuschwanstein Castle in Germany, the Taj Mahal in India, and the Bioluminescent beach in Japan.
